EBSCO Updates from Annual
Posted by: Jessica Moyer
This afternoon I attended EBSCO’s luncheon for academic librarians. This post will be a quick overview of the new projects and upgrades, I will post more detailed information after the conference when I get a chance to read over all the handouts.
Over the fall and winter, EBSCO will be premiering 3 new databases. An all new dentristry and oral sciences databases will be one of the first of its kind and a great benefit to libraries with dental and health sciences programs. A new art and architecture database will be a direct competitor to Wilson’s Art Index, with more journals and more full text. Finally, EBSCO will now be hosting full text access to the historical indexes, Historical Abstracts and America History and Life. Librarians with history programs may need to reconsider their options for full text acdess to the premier historical journals.
Business Source Complete has finally completed its backlist project, making it the largest collection of business materials.
Lastly, EBSCO has announced an all new recession era special, a new database, EBSCO MainFile which is similar to Academic Search but has fewer of the most expensive journals and is priced at approximately 50% of the cost of the previous basic options. For libraries facing heavy budget cuts, this may be a good option.
Stay tuned for more details later this summer.
