Readers’ Favorite Free Websites
Posted by: Jessica Moyer
I recieved so many wonderful responses from my post last week about my essential reference websites that I wanted to share them all.
Here the are the 4 favorite sites of Points of Reference Readers:
Mariann says: “As a law librarian, I love http://thomas.loc.gov/ and http://www.gpoaccess.gov/CFR/INDEX.HTML
Laura uses the free version of Hoover’s – http://www.hoovers.com/free/ and says it “has great company information. It lists executives, financial information, competitors – lots of great stuff for people who have directory or other company based questions.”
And Kelly uses the Owl @ Purdue site, http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ , constantly. She says, “I used it as an undergrad, as a teacher, and now as a grad student and a librarian.”
And I’ll add my favorite site for writing, which is www.thesaurus.com. With information from Roget’s, and the Visual Thesaurus all in one place, I use it regularly when writing and reviewing. And the one click switch to dictionary.com with results from many different dictionaries can also be a lifesaver.
