The Straight Dope on Health Care Reform
Posted by: Barbara Bibel
With health care reform all over the news, people have questions. It is difficult to find objective information, but it is available if one knows where to look. The Kaiser Family Foundation has a Web site with a wide range of information:history of health reform efforts, state variation and health reform, financial consequences of medical bills, and more. Best of all, there is a side-by-side comparison of the major health care reform proposals that the President and Congress are considering. You will find this at http://healthreform.kff.org. Anothergood resource for evaluating all things political is the Pulitzer Prize-winning site Politifact, www.politifact.com. This site has articles, information about people, and these wonderful features: the Truth-o-Meter, which rates news stories and rumors from true to pants on fire; the Obameter, which tracks the President’s progress on his campaign promises; and the Flip-o-Meter, which tracks changes in political positions. It is hard to keep up with everything that goes on in Congress, but these sources will help you and your patrons.
