‘Tis the season to overindulge
Posted by: Barbara Bibel

At this time of the year, everyone is attending holday parties and family feasts, to be followed by resolutions to lose the resulting pounds. The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health provides an alternative, a Web site with delicious healthy dishes that are quick and easy to prepare. There are recipes for meat, poultry, seafood, and vegetarian main dishes and grain and vegetable side dishes. All are made from healthy ingredients and take less than forty minutes to prepare. The site also has valuable information about food safety, nutrition labels, and cooking techniques. There are videos to demonstrate knife techniques and cooking with herbsĀ and spices. A new one is added each month. A glossary of culinary terms is also available. Users may register on the site and set up a recipe box to save recipes and rate others that appear on the site. I am definitely going to try the tofu stir fry with spicy sauce!

Just a quick note to thank those of you who expressed sympathy about the loss of my dog. I got a new one yesterday. She is a shaggy little terrier mutt shelter rescue who is sweet, adorable, and very funny.
