Web Site of the Week: Mapping History
Posted by: Christine Bulson

In a recent post,  Historical Maps In Print And Online,  Mary Ellen Quinn mentioned mappinghistory.uoregon.edu.  This new site illustrates historical trends through maps, charts and graphs.  Faculty at the University of Oregon, with collaboration of the German Univeristat Munster, developed Mapping History.  It contains modules of American, European, Latin American and African History subdivided by topic.   The topics are chronological with the more than thirty US modules beginning with Native American Culture to 1500,  through Life Expectancy 1850-2000.  An interesting interactive map shows US population and immmigration westward from 1800-1910.  Some topics have review questions that would be suitable for use with high school students or undergraduates.  This is a work in progress with material continually being added.
