Staying healthy
Posted by: Barbara Bibel

Every day, it seems that some commentator is telling us that we are overweight, out shape, and as a result at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. We know that we need to eat less and exercise more, but we just can’t seem to do it. The National Heat, Lung, and Blood Institute has a plan to help. The We Can! Web site at http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/obesity/wecan/ provides tools for individuals, families, and communities interested in improving their health. It has nutritional guidelines, a body mass index calculator, tips for exercising and getting away from desks and screens, and plans for organizing community programs for group support.

Another useful tool for those on the go is the new Mobile MedlinePlus from the National Library of Medicine. Now you can access MedlinePlus from your smart phone in English or Spanish at http://m/medlinplus.gov. This is useful if you are traveling and need to figure out how to deal with food poisoning or check on the latest disease outbreak. This information could save your vacation.
