How Will We Search in the (Near) Future?

Apparently Asia--Korea in particular--is way ahead of us when it comes to search. According to DigitalNext (the Advertising Age blog), Naver and Daum, "the Google and Bing of South Korea," have moved beyond text-box searching.
I'm not an expert searcher and don't quite understand all the ramifications as outlined in DigitalNext. But I was interested to read that Naver and Daum use portals, because a number of reference database publishers have been adding portals to their sites, one recent example being Credo's Topic Pages, which Sue blogged about last week.
