It is spring. Love is in the air. April is Sexually Transmitted Disease Awareness Month. According the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , there are over 19 million new STD cases in the United States every year. Over half of these are in young people between the ages of 15 and twenty four, the same ones we see at the desk every day, often doing assignments about STDS! The medical costs related to STDs are over $16.4 billion annually. Other STD -related costs are non-monetary: infertility, infected children, and cervical cancer. The CDC has put up a special Web page for STD Aweareness Month with videos, podcasts, and information on where one may get tested as well as tips for having that important but oh -so- embarrassing talk with a partner. You can find all this and more at http://www.cdc.gov/Features/STDAwareness/.
