Web Site of the Week: Oceanservice.noaa.gov
Posted by: Christine Bulson

The National Ocean Service web site illustrates through a variety of methods how the government monitors,  studies and tries to protect the ecosystem of coastal regions of the US.  It is useful for educators and students, especially in elementary through high schools.  There is no doubt that the site will be popular now for information on the explosion, fire and sinking of the oil well in the Gulf of Mexico last week.  Oceanservice updates every evening the news on the ”Deepwater Horizon Incident.”  In addition to the update there is also a map of the region with the location of the oil slick, color coded by date and possible trajectory in the future.  There are also numerous links to other sites that are covering this ecological disaster.
