Rare books for all
Posted by: Barbara Bibel
An article in today’s Chronicle of Higher Education notes that the Cambridge University Library plans to digitize its most significant rare books and manuscripts, thanks to a grant from a Brisith philanthropist. This will give scholars and other interested patrons access to these important works. They plan to start with their Foundations of Science and Foundations of Faith collections which include rare Korans, items from Jewish gnizas and early Christian texts, as well as works by Isaac Newton and Edmond Halley. Making these works available online for all will give readers an opportunity to study these important texts while preserving the original documents.
