There ought to be a law

Legal questions can be problematic. Aside from the fact we are not lawyers and cannot give legal advice, finding materials in plain English may be difficult. The good people at Nolo Press publish wonderful self-help books on common legal issues: tenant’s rights, immigration, small claims court, etc. The also now have a website with free legal materials at http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/. It includes a plain-English legal dictionary, a directory of lawyers, hundreds of articles on common legal topics (employment law, real estate, family law and divorce, wills and probate, etc.), and calculators for personal finance, as well as the full text of several of their popular titles: Renter’s Rights, Everybody’s Guide to Small Claims Court, and The Foreclosure Survival Guide. Even the volunteer lawyers from our Lawyers in the Library Program recommend these sources. Our patrons pay the ultimate complement: Nolo titles are among the most frequently stolen, especially bankruptcy and divorce. If only we could catch the culprits and press charges…..
