Web Site of the Week: Smithsonian Institution

One of the great things about our government is the Smithsonian, si.edu.  If you are in DC for ALA take a break and see what a marvelous resource the Smithsonian is for all of us. Concentrating on the museums in DC  there is something for everyone – African Art, Air and Space, American History, American Indian, Natural History, Portrait Gallery, etc.  One of my favorites is the American History Museum which contains the First Lady’s Inaugural Gowns and Julia Child’s Kitchen.  A current exhibit is Paper Engineering:  Fold, Pull, Pop & Turn which displays books with moving parts. It will be there until September 1, 2011. The museum is on the mall at 14th and Constitution, NW and open from 10 am to 7:30 pm daily.  Remember all the Smithsonian museums are free.  We paid for them!
