Wikimania News

The 2010 Wikimania conference, held this year in Gdansk, Poland, has just ended. In case you missed it, you can catch up by reading this New York Times article.

The article makes note of what may be a new trend. The British Museum recently appointed a “Wikipedian in residence” to start a collaboration with Wikipedia, and several institutions in the U.S, including the Smithsonian, are interested  in similar partnerships. The idea is to facilitate museum staff’s contributions to Wikipedia, and also to monitor what appears there.

Another trend is the Wikipedia Foundation’s focus on growth in the “global south”–India, South America, and the Middle East.
