20th Anniversary of the ADA
Posted by: Barbara Bibel
In honor of the twentieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, here are two websites to help you assist patrons with disabilities. DeafMD, www.deafmd.org, provides health information and health news in American Sign Language. In addition to written information, there are videos of people signing the content. The site also has a directory of deaf-friendly physicians. Information about diseases and conditions, medical tests, and current news will help deaf patrons stay informed. Eldergadget, www.eldergadget.com, reviews smart phones, digital cameras, tablet computers, and more to see how friendly they are for seniors to use. This would also be useful for anyone with visual , balance, hearing, or memory impairment. The site includes gadgets such as a clock radio with a sun-stimulating light for people who cannot hear an alarm and flip-flops with an attached LED light, useful for those with poor night vision. There are also locator devices for people with Alzheimer’s and articles evaluating web browsers for ease of use.
