Another Reason to Bypass the Library
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk

I’ve been considering whether to ask Santa for an e-book reader for Christmas. Everyone I know who has a Kindle loves it, but I’d prefer to download books from my local library, even knowing the selection is limited and the downloading process is a nuisance, because 1) I want to support my library and 2) it’s free.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google is set to introduce Google Editions by the end of the year.  Google Editions will allow users to buy e-books from Google and also from independent bookstores (a positive development  for them). But in addition, millions of e-books will be available for free. There goes one of my reasons for wanting to stick with the download-books-from-the-library model.
