App of the Month: WorldCat Mobile
Posted by: Christine Bulson
The spring semester is now beginning for many college students and WorldCat Mobile is an app that might be useful in certain situations. The app uses WorldCat.org which is “the world’s largest online resource for finding information in libraries.” Reviews of the app have not been great, but for a quick check to see if a particular book is located in a library nearby this will help. In addition to the normal bibliographic citation, the correct form for APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard and Turabian are listed. The app will display the libraries in the area that own the item, map them, give directions and even call the library. A future app may summarize the book and write the research paper!

The downloadable app version of WorldCat (created by Boopsie) is still available, but there is now also a mobile Web browser version of WorldCat.org that may better suit your needs. So you don’t even need to download the app–just go to the site on your mobile phone’s Web browser to gain access to the world’s largest library catalog, no matter where you are.
