Timely Topic: The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
Posted by: Rebecca Vnuk
March 25 is the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, and this week a terrific (and harrowing) documentary about the fire aired on American Experience on PBS. Click here to watch it online. Another documentary about the fire will air on HBO on March 21.
There’s also a good web exhibit containing both seconday material and primary sources such as documents, interviews, and photos, held by the Cornell University Library and housed at the Kheel Center for Labor-Management Documentation and Archives at Cornell’s IRL School.
Print reference sources can offer a variety of perspectives on the fire. Examples include The American Beauty Industry Encyclopedia (Greenwood, 2010); Child Labor: A World History Companion (ABC-CLIO, 1999); and the award-winning Jewish Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia (Routledge, 1997).
