Web Site of the Week: Food52.com
Posted by: Christine Bulson
Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs spent five years testing over 1,400 recipes for the revised edition of The Essential New York Times Cookbook (Norton, 2010). They discovered that home cooks have the best recipes, so started Food 52 to showcase recipes from those who love to cook. Each week the site offers two themes and gives the public five days to submit a recipe. These entries are judged by Hesser and Stubbs, two are chosen and the public votes for the best. That recipe will be included in an annual Food52 cookbook. The first one will be published by Morrow in Oct. 2011. As other food sites, you may search for recipes, ask questions and read current news in the food field. The authors include a “Cooking Manifesto” stressing the importance of teaching children to cook. Three of the provisos are if you cook you’ll set a lifelong example for your children, make other people happy and people will remember you!
