Web Site of the Week: eBird.org
Posted by: Christine Bulson

eBird.org was developed in 2002 by Cornell University Lab of Ornithology and the Audubon Society. It is a database of  bird distribution and now accepts sightings throughout the world.  What makes it unique is that amateur birders are encouraged to report sightings of birds.  This provides scientists and researchers information for the study of the location of bird species. Reports are compiled in maps, graphs and bar charts.  An individual may register on eBird and then can report sightings and also maintain a checklist of individual sightings.  For those that may need assistance in determining what they saw, another site of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, allaboutbirds.org, will help in identification.
