Exotic Diseases
Posted by: Barbara Bibel

If you are planning a trip to a tropical locale, whether for business or pleasure, consider the possibility of exposure to one of the many diseases that flourish in these areas. Malaria, dengue fever Ebola, and leishmaniasis, to name a few may lurk there. Consult a physician with experience in travel medicine as a part of your preparation so that you can get the necessary immunizations and prophylaxis drugs. If you want to learn more about the diseases, the World Health Organization has a useful website at http://www.who.int/topics/tropical_diseases/en/. It offers fact sheets about the diseases, current news, statistics, publications, and training materials. Users may search by geographic region to see which diseases occur in specific areas. Be careful and enjoy your trip.
