The dead Sea Scrolls, which contain the earliest known text of the Hebrew Bible, were discovered in the caves of Qumran in 1947. They now reside in The Shrine of the Book, part of the Israel Museum complex in Jerusalem. Now you can examine five of the most important scrolls online. They have been digitized and you can find them at http://dss.collections.imj.org.il/. The Great Isiah Scroll, The War Scroll, The Temple Scroll, The Community Rule Scroll, and the Commentary on the Habbakuk Scroll are available . You may look at the original scrolls in Hebrew as well as translations by Peter Flint and the Jewish Publication Society. The scroll text is searchable and clicking on a line will reveal a translation. There are also videos and photo essays that provide background information. Let your inner archaeologist and Bible scholar free without the expense of a trip to Jerusalem.
