Ben Rattray is the CEO of Change.org which appeared in 2007.  The site is described as  a "social action platform that empowers anyone, anywhere to start, join, and win campaigns to change the world."  An individual can start a petition for change, gather support and hopefully succeed.  Popular petitions at the moment include setting up a recycling program for crayons, reinstating a gay Cub Scout leader and removing a director of the New York Federal Reserve Board.  Recent successful campaigns include removing bank fees, the USDA offering schools a choice of beef with or without "pink slime," and Apple vowing to protect Chinese workers.
