Barbara Bibel is a reference-collection development librarian at the Oakland Public Library in California. She is also a medical librarian, certified as a Consumer Health Information Specialist by the Medical Library Association. When she is not staffing the reference desk and selecting books, she write reviews for Booklist, Reference Books Bulletin, Library Journal, ARBA, the Jewish Book Council, and the Association of Jewish Libraries. She also serves as the book review editor for Consumer Connection, the newsletter of the consumer health section of the Medical Library Association and the Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet. Outside of the library, she enjoys cooking, travel, reading , attending concerts and theatre, and spending quality time with her dog. Her grown daughter is a screenwriter who calls home when she has reference questions.
Christine Bulson retired in 2002 after over 30 years as an academic reference librarian and assistant director of Milne Library, SUNY Oneonta. She has reviewed for Reference Books Bulletin since 1988 and was chair of the Reference Books Bulletin Editorial Board 1991-1993. She received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Librarianship in 1989. Her reviewing interests are dictionaries, atlases, classical music, opera and cooking. She also reviews cookbooks for Library Journal. Her motto is once a reference librarian, always asking questions and hopefully finding the answers!
Craig Bunch is librarian at Hamilton Middle School in Houston, Texas. For 17 years, he was high school and district librarian in Coldspring, Texas. He has been a regular reviewer for Reference Books Bulletin since 1993 and for The Art Book since 2005. He has also published in Folk Art, Kyoto Journal, The St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture, The Encyclopedia of Recorded Sound, The Dictionary of American History (3rd ed.), and Popular Culture in Libraries (for which he was review editor). Craig and his wife Delana love art, books, travel, and their cats, dogs, birds, and squirrels.
Jessica E. Moyer is a doctoral candidate at the University of Minnesota. Twin Cities. Her dissertation is about teen leisure reading and compares audiobooks, ebooks and print book reading. She teaches reference and readers’ advisory courses in the University of St. Catherine’s MLIS program, is the author of Research Based Readers’ Advisory (ALA Editions 2008), and several articles on reference and readers’ advisory services. Jessica reviews fiction, international mysteries, pet mysteries, audiobooks, professional reading, and reference books for Booklist, and fiction for Library Journal. In her spare time she reads science fiction and fantasy and watches educational TV with her cats and husband.
Sue Polanka is Head of Reference and Instruction at, Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio and has been chair of the Reference Books Bulletin Editorial Board since 2007. She writes about e-books on her blog, No Shelf Required.
Mary Ellen Quinn has been Editor of Reference Books Bulletin since 1997. She is also Managing Editor, Booklist Online. When she is not immersing herself in reference books and databases, she takes refuge from the rapid pace of change by reading long Victorian novels.
